A visit to the coastal town of Brixham in South Devon makes me think that many times I've been there. Enjoying the day out sightseeing, learning about local history and enjoying the atmosphere like a picturesque historic fishing port city.
The good thing about Brixham is the perfect place for people of all age groups, whether it's day with children and families, somewhere to my grandmother, or a pleasant stroll with a local bank nearest and dearest, it's something for everyone.
Brixham is part of the coast known as the "English Riviera", the area is steeped in history, and especially naval history in particular. As a key port for the well-located and the strategic port, just the tip titled "Berry Head, " the Napoleonic fortifications and walls for research, originally built to any threatened invasion by the French at that time. The fort has a pleasant cafe on site which is worth a visit. Location fort is about 30 minutes walk from the airport.
legend Sir Francis Drake to the Spanish Armada just off the coast of Brixham, in the famous battle which was eventually the winner. At the present time to mark the occasion there is now a full size replica of Drakes ship the Golden Hind ", which sits very impressive in the port for all visitors to see the port of Brixham. For adults and children such as this one will be sure to conjure up thoughts and pictures of pirates on the high sees.
This is seen by many celebrities visit Brixham or land at this port is a place of Prince William of Orange first set foot on English soil, and like many of Naval dignitaries such as Lord Nelson himself.
port at Brixham has always been an extremely important role in the fishing industry, even as far back as the Middle Ages. It is the largest fishing port in the southwest of England until about the mid-twentieth century when the fishing industry declined, but it is still a busy fishing port today. It has its own fish market on the waterfront, where fishermen and fish traders buy and sell their locally caught fish like Fishmongers and local caterers.
Well it seems Brixham is an ideal place to sample local seafood faire visiting a local restaurant, cafe or good old fish and chip shop, a cottage really does not get any more local than that to travel a minimum of food miles.
if you want to get different perspectives Brixham, why not take a ride on one of the many boat trips from the airport and along the coast. There are mini-boat trips and longer journeys to be much more than the local coast with a local guide to explain the sights, history and wildlife on the road. One thing is for sure, you will need more than one day to see a lot of things Brixham has to offer.
